The 2012 NHL Draft was widely successful for the USHL as 28 players from the 2011-12 season were selected by NHL clubs. It was also a big weekend for the future of the League as nine players who are USHL prospects were chosen in the Draft.
In the first round of the NHL Draft, the Calgary Flames picked Mark Jankowski with the 21st overall pick. Jankowski will be the first player selected in the first round of the NHL Draft to continue his career in the USHL since Blake Wheeler spent the 2004-05 season with the Green Bay Gamblers after being selected fifth overall by the Phoenix Coyotes.
Adam Gilmour was selected by the Minnesota Wild in the fourth round (98th overall). He was the first-round selected of the Muskegon Lumberjacks in the 2012 USHL Entry Draft.

Headquartered in Chicago, Illinois, the USHL celebrated its 10th season as the nation's only Tier I junior hockey league in 2011-12. With 28 picks during the 2011 NHL Entry Draft, 13 NHL draftees on its rosters this season, and 280 players already committed to NCAA Division I schools this season, the USHL has emerged as the world’s foremost producer of junior hockey talent.
