The Waterloo Black Hawks finished the exhibition portion of their Russian travel schedule with a 4-2 loss against HC MVD Thursday afternoon at Balashikha Arena in the Moscow suburb of Balashikha

Following a scoreless first period, the teams steadily accumulated penalty minutes in the second, leading to a pair of power play goals for each side.  MVD got the first two early in the frame.  The opening score was poked in by Dmitry Markovin on a rebound at 1:53.  Less than a minute later and back on the advantage, Roman Kobelev blasted a shot into the net from the right point.

Waterloo’s quick recovery began with a five-on-three advantage.  Ryan Papa delivered a pass across the slot to Vince Hinostroza who hit the net as goalie Ivan Bocharov was moving from left to right.  With the first MVD penalty taken off the board, the Hawks cashed in during the remaining power play time when a puck caromed into the net off the skate of Kyle Schmidt.

MVD reassumed the lead late in the third on a power play goal after the Hawks believed they had scored.  Jabbing the puck toward the goal line, Justin Kloos was called for slashing.  After the penalty, a three-on-two rush led to a score by Aleksey Belanov.  Ilya Shipov added a shorthanded empty net goal with 18 seconds remaining.

HC MVD is the junior affiliate of the KHL’s Dynamo Moscow.  Two members of their 2011-2012 team were promoted directly to the parent club for this season, while several others were assigned to Dynamo Balashikha, an intermediate affiliate.

The Black Hawks travel to Omsk to begin their Junior Club World Cup slate Sunday against Czech side HC Energie.
